E. coli – The presence of e. coli in your pond water supply is indicative of fecal pollution.  Symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal cramping (sometimes severe) and vomiting may be caused by fecally contaminated water.

Nitrate – Nitrates are nutrients for plant and algae growth.  Excessive algae can be unsightly.  The bacteria consuming the dead algae can deplete the dissolved oxygen.  Lack of oxygen may cause a fish kill and give rise to anaerobic (septic) bacteria.

Ammonia – is poisonous and odorous.  Ammonia levels in a pond can indicate the lack of nitrogen cycle (run-off or dump) or the lack of dissolved oxygen needed to complete the nitrogen cycle.

Phosphorus – Phosphorus is a nutrient for plant and algae growth.  Excessive algae can be unsightly.  The bacteria consuming the dead algae can deplete the dissolved oxygen.  Lack of oxygen may cause a fish kill and give rise to anaerobic (septic) bacteria.
